A TRIBUTE

A tribute to the 13-year career of Emory University’s 19th president, James Wagner, “The Wise Heart” was first shown at a farewell gala on June 3, 2016. Featuring interviews with trustees, administrators, faculty, and students, as well as former President Jimmy Carter, Georgia Congressman John Lewis, and University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann, the video heralds Wagner’s achievements.

Tribute Video, Wordmark Design

I was overseeing the video from planning to delivery as an ACD. This project involved conducting interviews with multiple individuals at various locations. The overarching strategy was to construct a timeline of major achievements. In between the interviews/chapters, we incorporated photo montages to offer glimpses of significant moments. By leveraging sound bites from previous Wagner interviews, we added another layer of depth to this piece."

PROJECT BREAKDOWN

The moment this video was on Gala's screen, its impact was monumental, evoking tears even from the President and his family. It was a victory that transcended visuals, etching a memory in the hearts of all attendees.

TRADITION - MARBLE

Marble is important to Emory University because it's a tradition on campus that dates back to its founding in 1915. New York architect Henry Hornbostel designed the campus to resemble Northern Italy, using local pink and white Georgia marble to create a quasi-villa look. The marble exteriors of the Anatomy and Physiology buildings, which date back to 1917, still gleam after 90 years. I was pleased that we used the actual marble image captured from the campus on the cover of the invitation.

TRADITION - MARBLE

Earlier iterations tried to work the glass and marble mix to come up with a visually appealing look.
